Oh, what a bright and beautiful day! The warm sun bathed the plains, nestling the wildlife that lived below. Just outside of Appleloosa, a lone figure hopped carelessly between the trees, seemingly followed by a small troupe of birds. Slightly skinnier yet taller than your average pony, the figure almost danced within the orchard, mahogany coat blending him seamlessly into his surroundings.
Littlehorn was thoroughly enjoying today. He felt like today was destined to be a good day, not just for himself, but for the world as a whole. Nothing could go awry. Nothing but complete and utter bliss touched his heart, with the gentle melodies of the birds keeping the rest of the world at bay. It was not uncommon for Littlehorn to be lost in his own world like this. He had even been known to lose track of the days whilst on his 'adventures', able to sustain himself on the wild edibles in the area. The other buffadeer knew the young buck could handle himself, and for the most part, he was left completely to his own devices. It was a life that he loved, really.
Slowing down to what could only be described as a trot, Littlehorn suddenly became aware that his stomach was growling at him. Time to get something to munch on!

Having wandered for days on end, during the night mostly to keep cool, the unicorn mare had no sense of where she was headed, she just hoped she would find a town or something soon. She was dusty, dirty, hungry, thirsty, and down right hungry as a horse. She crested a hill as the sun beat down on her and her eyes spotted the trees.
"Food..." she whispered and in a weak run, made her way dow the hill towards the shade and trees.
As she ran down the hill, she gained more speed and in her hunger weakened state, she lost balance and tripped, skidding to a halt an inch from an apple tree. She groaned for a moment, then stood to her hooves shakily. She looked up and spotted a juicy red apple, just hanging there as if calling to her. Mouth watered a moment, she turned and bucked at the tree, the only way she could think of to get the apple to fall. Even with the weak buck, she managed to shake a few loose...to which hit her in the head.
"Ese daño!!(That hurt!!)" she said and looked at the four apples that had hit her in the head. She didn't waste any time though, biting into the first apple to quench her thirst and hunger. "Esto es tan bueno y jugoso!(This is so good and juicy!)"

Littlehorn barely noticed the unicorn in his midst until he heard the familiar thud of hooves against bark. Spooked, he squeaked and leapt behind another tree, hiding from view as his feathered companions either fled or landed on his antlers. It took him a few moments to realise that the sound itself was far quieter than usual... that buck hadn't been a strong one.
Peering out from his hiding place - not that a Buffadeer hid well against a tree - Littlehorn spied the other pony. She seemed to be taller than himself, and a deep violet colour. However, it was not this that kept his attention. She seemed to be... shaky on her hooves? Curious, and forgetting about his own hunger for a moment, the buffadeer tentatively emerged from his hiding place, trotting slowly towards her. He kept a little distance between them, though, since she was eating the apples that had fallen loose from the tree.
"Uhm... excuse me, are you okay?" Came his quiet voice, followed by the tweet of a bird still perched on an antler.

Esperanza hadn't noticed if there was anyone else among the apple trees, she had only cared about getting food in her stomach. It was only seconds before the first apple was finished and she was crunching into the second one, though at a more steadier pace. Ears flicked as she head the voice though and the tweet. She looked up quickly to see the buffadeer and birds.
"Yo?(me?)" she asked, then cleared her throat and straightened her form. "Excuse me, I did not see anyone else here. I apologize if I am trespassing, but I have been traveling for a few days and....stupidly forgot to pack food and water. If this is your orchard, I am afraid I have no bits to pay for the apples I have eaten, but I could work it off."
She was not sure if she wanted reveal the whole story of why she was out in the desert with no food or water just yet, she had just meet this other and was not sure if she could trust him or not.

"Oh, well, um, no. This orchard isn't mine, but I don't think the ponies would mind so much... You seem like you're really hungry." He replied sheepishly, hoping this stranger wasn't dangerous. It was difficult to tell, but considering how weary she looked, Littlehorn doubted that she had the physical strength to attack him right now. He only hoped that his instincts were right on this one.
The birds, however, were mostly unafraid of the pale-maned mare. A sparrow previously perched on Littlehorn's back fluttered its wings, swiftly making its way over to the pony and nestling in her mane. It chirped happily before looking over to the buffadeer. Littlehorn thought for a moment, watching the fearless little creature. Perhaps it was trying to tell him not to be afraid - like the kind of silent communication close friends have. After all, this pony really didn't seem threatening. At least, she didn't right now. Relaxing a little, Littlehorn tried to pluck up the courage to speak some more.
"Uhm, so, w-what's your name?" He asked gently, trying not to shake from nerves.

"Oh? There is a town nearby? Maravilloso!(wonderful!)" she said and shifted to sit on her rump. "Perhaps you could take me there after I am done, si?(yes)"
She watched the buffadeer and could only chuckle softly on the inside. He reminded her of herself whe she was younger, often times shy around new ponies. It was true though, she didn't have the strength to attack anyone and she wouldn't do such to anyone unless provoked. Plus, he was too cute to harm. She glanced at another apple near her and levitated close. As the sparrow nestled into her mane, she blinked a moment, then smiled and gave a little whistle, as if imitating a sparrow's call. She then looked to the buffadeer with question of her name.
"Ah, cómo es grosero de mí(how rude of me)," she said and shook her head softly. "My name is Esperanza. Whom might you be?"

Littlehorn could not help but smile as he heard the whistle - it sounded so calming, akin to birdsong itself. Perhaps this mare liked his feathered friends as much as he did~
His face immediately turned a pale pink as she asked his name, however. Oh, how ridiculous! Of course that was going to be the natural response to his question, it was only polite after all. The buffadeer shook his head vigorously, ruffling the fluff atop his head and giving the birds upon his antlers a shock in the process. Annoyed, they chirped at him, only to sit back on his horns again. Taking a deep breath, he tried to answer Esperanza.
"Oh, that's, um, a very pretty name. Where is it from?" He began, digging at the ground slightly. There were small buds under the earth here... "Um, and my name is Littlehorn."

Esperanza watched the buffadeer. She had never seen one up close before, only heard of them, so it was a bit of a treat to be talking to one. Watching the birds a moment, she smiled softly. She held up one of the apples she had not eaten yet and held it out to the other. "Care to join me?"
Her eyes glanced upwards a moment to the sparrow still sitting among her mane, she didn't mind, though her attention soon turned back to the buffadeer. "I am not sure where it is from, but I came fom Albuckquerque." she looked around a moment, then pointed in the direction she had come from. "It is that way mostly. If I had a map, I could show you better." She heard his name and chuckled softly. "It is nice to meet you Littlehorn...and your little friends."

((I'll be posting from Littlehorn's account from now on c: ))
Littlehorn continued to blush a little at her response. The birds chirped happily, quite pleased to welcome Esperanza, and ignoring Littlehorn's sheepishness. They were used to him by now~
Nodding, the buffadeer tried to follow the direction she was pointing in with his gaze. He couldn't see anything resemblant of a city over there. She must have come from miles away! He was distracted, however, by the apple presented to him. Taking it with his own hoof, Littlehorn managed a timid smile. "Thanks~ I can't even see Albuckquerque, it must be far. I'm pretty sure you can find somewhere to rest in Appleloosa though. If-if you really want, I suppose I don't mind showing you the way. It's not far." He replied, desperately trying not to let his nerves get the better of him. Since Esperanza was new in the area, she would need somepony to guide her around, and he couldn't just leave her by herself out here.

Ears flicked as she listened to th birds chirping, it made her smile a little more. She hadn't smiled for a few days, not since the incident. She glanced a moment towards the buffadeer as the apple was taken and she nodded.
"Si, it is a bit far from here," she said and finished off the apple she had for herself. "Appleloosa? Ah, I've heard of this town, but never seen it before. Gracias, I would be happy to see it."

Littlehorn tilted his head at the occasional foreign word she spoke, but shook it off as he finished the delightful apple. He had already been told that Esperanza was not a local pony, so it stood to reason that she may speak a little differently. Regardless, he could understand the vast majority of what the unicorn was saying, so it wasn't a hindrance to him. Turning slightly, he pointed a hoof towards Appleloosa.
"It's over this way~" He explained, the pony town being just about visible through the haze of dry land heat. They were just lucky that it wasn't sandstorming today, else even from this short distance, Appleloosa would have been completely invisible. "I can help you find a place to stay, if you like." Thinking briefly, Littlehorn let a soft whistle escape him. The birds atop his antlers, seeming to understand, fluttered into life, flying just a little way ahead and perching in the apple trees. They were keeping watch for him, just in case trouble began to head their way. It always made Littlehorn feel safer when he knew his friends would be looking out for him.

Esperanza knew she was probably speaking some words he didn't understand, so she tried to be careful of how much she used. The apple she had was soon finished off, leaving one left, but for now she would not dive for it, her hunger and thirst sated for the time being. As he pointed towards where the town was, she squinted a little and soon was able to make it out.
"It looks very nice. I'm sure the ponies are also nice there," she said with a nod and looked back towards him. "You would do that? Gracias mi amigo! Erm...I mean...thank you my friend. I sometimes forget that not everypony speaks our language." She watched the birds a moment and then turned back towards the buffadeer. "You are friends with the birds? That is nice. I never really had a pet of sorts."

"Oh, t-they're not my pets..." Littlehorn stammered, looking up at his friends in the trees. "They keep me company, though, when everydeer is busy. It's nice to know someone is listening, even if you don't really understand each other."
Tentatively, the buffadeer began to head towards Appleloosa, following the lines of trees in the orchard. He was very careful not to stray too far, though, so Esperanza could keep up. He had no idea what state her physical strength was in right now, even with sustenance. As he trotted, his mind played over the words she had just spoken, thinking carefully about her speech patterns. "Um, you don't have to force yourself to speak my language." He said, finally. "I can understand most of it. The birds can only chirp and whistle, but we understand each other just fine~"
As he finished speaking, Littlehorn's ears twitched. He was now painfully aware that the ground was moving a little, the slight wisp of dust just about audible. The wind had picked up a little. Nothing to be worried about, at least not yet.

Esperanza nodded and shifted a little, looking to the birds once more. "That is nice to have friends such as them," she said and stood slowly to her hooves as he began to move. She blinked a moment and chuckled. "It is alright. Sometimes i forget that not all know the language, so I try to keep it simple when speaking to others."
Her eyes looked towards the town once more, she new she could find someplace to stay and possibly work as well.

The buffadeer moved just a little further before stopping, waiting for the mare to catch him up. It was probably a good thing that he was not the impatient type, otherwise he would have been getting aggravated by her. Littlehorn just didn't have that kind of emotion in him - any rage he ever felt was usually quickly dispersed by his surroundings. So beautiful, so quiet. It was difficult to see how anydeer could become enraged in such an environment. Shaking his hooves lightly to rid them of the breezy dust, he turned to the pony.
"Are you sure you're alright? You can put your weight on me if you need to - I look small for a buffadeer but I promise I won't drop you!" He asked, smiling softly. He knew he wasn't the strongest looking thing in the world, but helping her along was something he could manage.
