Name: Sagebrush
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Species: Earth Pony
Pelt Color: Rust red
Mane/Tail Color: Black
Eye Color: Aqua
Cutie Mark: Mortar and pestle with deadly nightshade
Build: Lean and sinewy.
Residence: Wherever he stops for the night.
Occupation: Medicine man, herbalist, shaman
Talents/Skills: Herbalist, and with that knowledge can heal or kill. Can communicate with the dead, or at least he thinks he can! Spiritual advisor and general “guidance counselor”
Likes: Untamed land, spirit/spunk in other ponies, cleverness, clear nights under the stars
Dislikes: Arrogance, crowds, closed minds, complainers, nosy ponies
Personality: Introspective, distrusting, and impulsive at times. Sage is generally easy going but often quick to be decisive about something and act upon it. He often mistrusts others, especially town folk, dues to his past interactions. In his quiet moments he often reflects about things, or meditates and seeks counsel from the long gone ancestors. Sometimes he can be a bit of a worrier about things and muse a little too much about where the future may take him. He generally doesn’t speak to others or reach out unless spoken to first. However, he often runs to aid others if he feels he can be of service, as it gives him a sense of purpose where it was snatched from him in his old tribe.
Bio: A former medicine man for his little band of ponies, Sagebrush was once quite at home in the wilds outside of Appleloosa. He grew up in that fashion of the native ponies, living of the earth and following ways most ponies had left behind. In his youth, he’d proven himself sharp of mind and also a bit of a trouble maker in his fiddlings with various herbal concoctions…one which almost put him 6 feet under the earth. Ironically, it was during this event that he got his cutie mark. His cleverness and boldness in exploring the unknown led him to be schooled in the ways of shamanism, so as to be a prominent healer and communicator with the spirits of the ancestors when the old Wise One passed. This wasn’t always an easy path for him to follow as, while he certainly had the smarts for it, he’s also extremely impulsive and at times impatient, often leaping before taking the time to look. So more often than not he did have his difficulties learning to restrain himself, and learn to slow down to listen and see.
Where the plains had formerly been wide open, home to varied tribes of species, the expansions of the more…cultured…ponies into the untamed prairies made their former territory begin to shrink. Desperate, his tribes’ kin took the last resort and fought back a losing battle when their traditional grounds were staked for a new town. In the war to come most of his tribe were killed. Only the few who were not warriors, himself included as a healer and herbalist, even managed to survive. Realizing the futility of battle, Sage gave himself up and was allowed what “freedom” his captors would choose to give. They let him go so long as he would give them no trouble, and while it seemed a merciful gift at the time, it didn’t take long for Sage to realize he was homeless, and tribeless. Despairing, Sage took to a nomadic life, never really staying in one place for too long, and while he spent most of it in solitude in the remaining plains, the yearning for company often got the better of him. As such, he meandered through a few of the passing towns cropping up here and there, at times selling his herbal remedies to garner a few bits. It was in one of these towns that he happened to run into a rather unfortunate Lucky Streak. He’d heard talk in the town of a pony who’d fallen very ill, and none of the town’s doctors were able to cure the illness. Naturally, Sage leaped before looking, and decided he was to help this stranger, whoever he was. With his knowledge of herblore, Sage was able to cure the ailing Lucky, and in thankfulness and respect, Lucky offered him a place amongst the Crimson Saddles. Finding a camaraderie amongst the motley crew of ponies, and a new tribe so to speak, Sage accepted and has been traveling with them ever since, on to new adventures in his life’s path.
