Character Personality ( optional ): She is a kind and caring pony, there to comfort others when needed, but at the same time she could charm the feathers off a buzzard.
Bio (optional) : Born in a simple home in Albuckquerque, Esperanza was born to two simple candle makers, Cactus Rose and Desert Wind. Though her parents were a pegasus and a unicorn, she was happily raised and seemed to ignore the hazings she got in school because of her parents being different breeds. She was also hazed because she had not gotten her cutie mark quickly like the others. It took till she was seven pony years old to get it. She was delivering candles to the church in town when she heard someone crying. Curious, she investigated and found another mare at the front of the church, praying for her father to get well. Esperanza asked what was wrong and found out the mare's father was very sick and she was afraid of losing him. She placed her hoof softly on the other's shoulder and said that everything would be alright and she should be at her father's side and to never give up hope. The other nodded and thanked her, heading back home. Three days later, the mare found her and swept up Esperanza in a hug, which surprised her. The mare said that her father was better and it was thanks to Esperanza giving her hope. It was then that her cutie mark, a single white dove, appeared on her flank. As she grew up, she continued to help where she could when others needed hope, but also with her parents and making and delivering candles. Granted, it was not the lifestyle she wanted, she knew there was something more for her out there.
One day when she was ten and making a delivery of candles, she saw some older ponies picking on another, taking some money from him and pushing him down because he was 'weaker' than them. She snorted and walked over to help the other up and said not to worry. She then called over to the others, approaching the one that had taken the bits from the younger pony. They turned to look, seeing Esperanza walking towards them, but in a more casual, lady like way. She went right up to their leader and started to sweet talk him, walking around him, nuzzling him, buttering him up with complements, all the while her magic had sparked and while normally a unicorn's magic could be seen when their horn glows, her magic blended, making it unseen. The bits that were taken had been found. She used her little gift to take them while she continued to charm the older pony. When she had finished, he had asked her out, but she flat out refused him and walked back to the pony that he had stolen the bits from and returned his money without the other ponies seeing her. She whispered to the other to not tell anyone about it and the younger pony nodded and ran off quickly. The older ponies had wandered off, but when they had tried to buy something, the leader discovered that the money they had stolen...was gone! Dumb struck, they figured it was from when Esperanza was 'flirting' with their leader. Esperanza had gone on to make the delivering, but the thrill she had gotten from taking the money and giving it back and been such a rush, that she knew that was what she was missing. In her teens, she continued to make deliveries, but now and then she had taken to little duties at night. There would be nights she would sneak out and visit haciendas of wealthier ponies that looked down on the 'lower class' of ponies in the town. Quiet as she could, she used her horn to locate the bits they had and she'd 'relieve' them of a bit of their riches and leave them at the homes of those that really needed money. No one knew what was going on, but of course when the town sheriff bucked up security around such places, Esperanza continued her work, but she was more careful. Her parents still had no idea she was doing this and she wanted to keep it secret for as long as she could.
One night though, a tragedy happened. Someone had come to the candelry and a fight had broken out. Esperanza was out making a late delivery to the church. When she returned, she saw her home in flames. Without thinking, she dashed into the home to find her parents. She found them, barely concious and slightly beaten up, her father worse for ware. She made her way to them and tried to drag them out one at a time, but as she reached for her mother, her mother told her to get out and run to safety. She said she wouldn't leave her family, but her father urged her and nudged her away. Her mother levitated the horn ring she wore to her daughter and told her to go before it was too late. Already choking on the smoke, she took the ring, set around her horn and dashed out the back door, which was closest to her. She continued to run once she was out of the house, not wanting to watch her home burn, knowing her parents were inside. Tears stung her eyes as she ran for the hills, but not watching where she was going, she soon tripped and found herself doing a face plant into the ground. Shifting, she looked over her shoulder to still see the glow of the fire. She didn't have the strength to get up, so she lay there. The night passed and when morning came, she was still there where she had slept. She stood shakily to her legs and turned to see that her home was gone. She was now alone and she'd have to tough it out the rest of her life. Determined not to let this get her down, she turned and started off to start a new life.
Days had passed and without having food or water, she weakened. She soon found a place in the shade and lay down to rest, deciding to travel at night. Sleeping the day away, she woke when she felt the cool of night and continued. Alone, she wandered where the road would take her, searching for someplace where she could belong.
