Bio (optional) : Born an raised in Fillydelphia, Dawn was a happy little filly. Her parents owned a candle making/selling shop. She helped out where she could around the shop when she wasn't in school. There had been one time when she had gone to Canterlot with her parents and she loved how beautiful it was and it was there where she saw some lovely dancers. The entire way home, all she could talk about were the dancers and how she wanted to be able to dance like them. It was a couple days after they had arrived back in Fillydelphia that her parents surprised her with a set of ballet slippers, saying she was going to take ballet lessons. She was excited and promised she'd work hard. She loved the classes, eventhough it was hard to get the hang of it at first, she soon found how much she loved it. She made a few friends in the class, though there were a couple that made fun of her because of her blank flank. She didn't let it bother her, she continued to do her school work and dance lessons. She always had fun with recitals though, always doing her best and having a smile on her face. One day after class when she was eight, she was walking home with a friend and she stopped to admire something in a store window while her friend continued walking. Down the way a bit, some bronies were moving a piano up to the top floor of a building. As Dawn turned to catch up with her friend, she heard the snap of the rope and saw the bronies fall backwards. She called out for her friend to watch out and her friend froze as the piano continued to fall. Dawn quickly rushed her friend, tackling and pushing her out of the way. The piano missed them by inches, but a large piece had broken off and hit Dawn in the back of the head, knocking her out. She was rushed to the hospital and when she woke, she thought the lights were out and called out for her mother and father and a nurse. When her mother entered the room and said she was there, Dawn said she couldn't see her and when her mother held her, Dawn buried her head against her mother's shoulder. The doctor came in and had heard the 'I can't see you mommy!' part and examined her, saying that she must have lost her sight from being hit in the back of the head. He said there was a fifty/fifty chance that it wasn't permanent.
Dawn went home with her parents, sad and disheartened. She didn't think she'd be able to dance anymore, but she continued to go to class, even if she couldn't see, she'd listen to the music as well as the sound of the others dancing. AS the days went by, her sense of hearing strengthened as did scent. Her friends would walk her home from class and when they left, she heard one of them say 'poor Dawn. I don't know why she bothers coming to class. She should give it up since she can't see.' That struck a nerve in her and the next day when she went to class, she was there early and after tying her shoes on, she set about the room to learn the walls edges so she could learn to dance without her sight. The teacher found her practicing by herself and asked her what she was doing. When Dawn said she wasn't going to let her blindness get her down, that she wanted to continue to dance, no matter what, the teacher said she could of course stay and learn. The teacher then gasped as she saw the glow and the appearance of Dawn's cutie mark. Dawn had heard the gasp and asked what was wrong and when she was told of her cutie mark appearing, Dawn asked her to describe it for her. The teacher traced a hoof along the pattern, saying it was an ornate sun like Celestia's and a pair of ballet slippers. Dawn held her head high and knew then that she was stronger than ever, her disability no longer a disability. When the others arrived, she surprised them by joining the class and dancing as if she weren't blind at all. She was able to keep up and didn't knock into anyone. On the walk home, she had gotten ahead of her friends, but not too far ahead. When she heard the line of 'she shouldn't be in class if she can't see', she paused and turned to her friends. "I may be blind, but I'm not deaf. Just because I can't 'see' doesn't mean I should just let my blindness take over my life.' She then turned around and proceeded on her way home, her other friend(the one that hadn't said she shouldn't be in class) caught up with her to help guide her home.
When Dawn was eleven, her parents announced that they would be moving to Canterlot to start a new store. Dawn was a bit afraid of the move since she'd be leaving her friends and dance class behind. They assured her all would be fine. The move went smoothly, though once all was settled and unpacked, Dawn set about memorizing the walls and corners of the new home so she wouldn't have to worry too much. She was enrolled in the school there as well as the dance school. The teacher there was a little skeptical, but when Dawn showed her how well she could dance despite being blind, she allowed Dawn to join the class. Of course there were some fillies at the school that took advantage of her being blind and she got into trouble a few times. After a few weeks of the hazing, she couldn't take it and ran off, bumping into things the entire way she ran. Soon after tripping over a root and tumbling head over hooves down a hill and into a creek, she just stayed put and cried. When she heard someone call out, asking who was there, she tried to hide, but the pony found her. He invited her back to his home and she heard the sound of wings and asked about the sound. He explained that they were falcons that he raised. When she felt one land on her head, she froze and he explained it was one of the new batches he was training to help with those who couldn't see, such as herself. She asked how he could tell that she was blind and he said that he could tell by how she was running to get out of sight. The kestrel seemed to take a liking to Dawn and the brony, who Dawn discovered was named Skyheart. After spending some time with him, talking and learning the commands he used to train the falcons as well as the signals the falcons used to guide their 'master', she decided she should head home. Skyheart gave her the gift of the kestrel that had taken a liking to her, saying he would help 'be her eyes' and help her. She thanked him and headed home, allowing Merlin, the name she gave the kestrel, to guide her safely back home to Canterlot, where she was met by her parents.
She and Merlin have been inseperable since then, the falcon going everywhere with her and helping to guide her along. She often takes trips to Ponyville to sell some of her parents candles that they make, Merlin helping her to and from. She doesn't get hazed anymore at school or dance class anymore, so she has no more reasons to run.
