Cause occasionally, even top athlete fliers get grounded. Something to cause even a energetic and high spirited stallion such as Soarin' to have the random blues, at least until he get himself some pie.
So, stuck on the ground, the famed pegasus came to Ponyville for some relax & recharge. Though to avoid making scenes -all- the time, the Wonderbolt stallion had rented a house outskirts and spent most of his time trotting through the Whitetail Woods.
Soarin' was anything but happy as he trotted slowly along the trail that surrounded the village of Ponyville. Bandages wrapped tightly around his light azure form, forcing one wing to be tightly folded against his side. Bruised ego and body after mid-air collision had left the famed Wonderbolt grounded till his ribs and wings had fully healed.
Bah, what did the doctor know anyway! He was Soarin'! Member of the Wonderbolts since his teens, grounding him… grounding any pegasi was like banning unicorns from using magic! Unheard of, well at least for him, the stallion sighed, it had been nearly three days since his arrival, and almost four since he had been grounded. If the doc had his way, the stallion would be grounded for at least another two weeks. The light azure stallion shook his scruffy blue mane and snorted out his frustration as he slowed down into a slow walking.
All this time, he could have been spending practising new tricks, training! Anything but being grounded! Of course, he did acknowledge he could have remained at the team’s HQ, but a mopey Soarin’ wasn’t exactly good for team spirit. Besides, a nice holiday would do him good, and nobody had stopped him from training, after all it took more than just flapping wings to be a good flyer.
The stallion felt his mood lift, just a bit and he stopped all together and looked down towards the village, tilting his head to the side. Maybe he’d catch the annual Running with the Leaves marathon this year. Soarin’ turned himself around and looked back at the Whitetail Woods, yes that would be awesome.

The ground let out a slight rumble as an orange blur ran along its spine. Leaves from nearby trees where shaken from their homes, catching on the cool breeze that seemed to follow the tremors. The blur itself, upon closer inspection, would inevitably be that rather well known work horse, once again conditioning herself for the upcoming Running of the Leaves race. All seemed to be going very well, enough so that the proud filly let out a laugh of joy as she thundered along the winding paths.
A loud "YEE-HAW!" rang through the forest as she started to slow herself down. There was no need to burn herself out just yet. She'd need all her energy to beat Rainbow Dash , when it came time to do so.
As her pace slowed to a fast trot, her eyes fell upon a light blue Pegasus, adorned in bandages and a very painful looking tight strap that seemed to be keeping his wings in place. The poor guy looked to be quite down on himself too. AJ Found herself walking towards him with a smile on her face; maybe having some pony to talk to would help him out.
"Howdy there stranger! Ya'll look a bit outta sorts there. Anything Ah'm able to do ta help?" She smiled, drawing to a stop as she stood next to him. As she looked at him something was nagging her, he looked familiar somehow. Had she seen him before?

He lifted his head up, closing his eyes and imagined spreading his wings, and sighed. The stallion shook his head and body with a chuckle. How crazy didn’t he just look in his own head? Hopefully nobody had seen his dreamy display. Oh well, time to get back to reality. He tilted his head, and bobbed it just a bit as he heard the thundering hooves of somepony approaching, and the light azure stallion turned to face whoever it was, offering a sheepish smile.
Oh, he felt as if he had been caught redhoofed. It was his own fault for moping about like that like a sulky colt though, and sullen he acknowledged that as he offered the orange mare a light smile. “Why yes ma’am, just sulking, but thanks” He looked sheepishly as he lowered his head, lightly indicating towards his midsection. “You know us pegasi, sulking like babies if we can’t fly. “ He put his game face on, even though it was nice with company. Soarin he casually made his way closer to her, holding his head higher and flashed a winning grin to her. “The name is Soarin. To whom do I have the honour of speaking with?” He was terrible at remembering names, yet he had to admit, he was almost certain he had seen the orange mare before. Such a cute face was hard to forget.

She nodded as he spoke, a small laugh escaping her as the thought of a grounded rainbow came to mind. He was right, a grounded Pegasus was a strange thing to behold, they all seemed to be lost without wind beneath them. He seemed to be taking it quiet well though, being able to wear a smile on his maw and all.
She smiled, tilting her head back to adjust her hat although she almost dropped it when he said his name. Wasn't he one of the ponies Rainbow was so obsessed with?! Yeh--yeh it was Soarin the wonderbolt. Well wasn't that a shock, the vermilion filly never expected to meet him in ponyville.
Her emerald eyes must have given her shock away so much but she didn't seem to mind, instead she offered her hoof for the colt to shake. "Ah'm AppleJack. Nice to meet ya' Soarin!"
Pausing she cocked her head to the side, looking at all the white bandages again, her curiosity peaking. Raising an eyebrow she looked up to him, her emerald eyes meeting with those of the stallions.
"If Ya'h don't mind me askin' What happened to get ya'h' in such a state?"

The stallion shifted his weight around, moving one hoof over the other and gave a playful bow at her "It’s a pleasure miss AppleJack” He said, meeting her eyes with a grin. He was still sure he had seen her before, but where. Ears pricked up lightly, moving towards her as he studied her silently for a few moments. Soarin’ then made his way closer to her, stretching himself as he did so.
“Well...” He actually looked flushed and sheepishly at her “I was trainin’ with one of my team mates, we were tryin’ out a new manoeuvre, and we miscalculated the distance between us, and crashed mid-air. Bit embarrassin, but I trust you won’t runnin’ off tellin’ everypony eh?” The pegasus tossed his head up playfully and winked at her.
Soarin’ ooking around for a moment, before looking at the vermilion filly and smiled at her “So, tell me. Miss AppleJack, whatcha doin’ out here, on your own? Myself, I’m here enjoying the view”

It was challenging enough following some of the dirt roads around Ponyville on a scooter to begin with, but with the added fact that there were years of treatment done by the annual running of the leaves Whitetail wood was one of the tougher routes to travel. Or funner, depending on the way you looked at it. The young filly known as Scootaloo certainly wasn't against such a challenge, and found it just as pleasant a trip as any. However, as she journeyed further down the trail she slowed herself. There were two ponies she could just make out ahead of her, an orange one and... a light blue pegasus?
Even if she couldn't see fully, Scoot was excited. It was only to be expected that she'd think it was her idol, Rainbow Dash. Although something did bother her, and as she approached the two she realized what it was. Reaching a distance where she could focus them in clear detail, the pegasus looked all hurt or something... And they didn't have the signature rainbow-mane.
The other one was Applebloom's sister, she could easily tell that. The young pegasus rolled up behind them both, hoping not to interrupt anything. It might've been important if he was all bandaged up, even if she was curious to know who he was. There was just that nagging feeling that she knew him from somewhere, but couldn't really tell. Maybe it was just that he reminded her of Dash, maybe it was something else.

The female nodded as she listened to the stallion speak. A mid air collision? Nasty stuff. Nevertheless, he seemed to be able to hold his own weight, which was a good sign. AJ could remember when Big Mac got hurt. It was a nightmare; he could barely do anything!
Shaking those thoughts out of her mind, AppleJack opened her mouth to speak, only to have a scraping, rumbling noise meet her ears, forcing them to flick in its direction, her eyes soon following suite. Was that--it was! A small and familiar sight warmed her heart, causing her to smile at the young Pegasus. She hadn't seen Scootaloo in quite a while! It was a great sight to see her riding up towards her on a scooter clearly aching from the route its owner had made it take.
"Well, howdy there sugar. Didn't think I'd see little ol' Scoot out today." She chuckled, a warm smile on her face. "How are ya' anyway? Applebloom's been drawing up some new plans for ya'll back at the farm if you're interested in headin' over there later"
Taking a few moments for the small filly had made AJ forget about Soarin temporarily, and quickly turned her head to continue their conversation, her hat tumbling down over her eyes with the sudden jerk.
"What the hay-?" The female exclaimed, trying to right the problem by shaking her head in an attempt to motion it back to normal. She only succeeding in shaking it to the floor, her blonde mane now in a rather disheveled style over her eyes.
Laughing she spoke up again, looking up at the azure colt. "Ah well. Ah was up here practisin' for the Runnin' of The Leaves. Ah'm sorry to hear about yer' accident. Ah' hope it'll fix itself soon. Is there anythin' Ah can do to help?" She nodded, kicking at the ground as an awkward silence filled the air.

It was a speck of orange, not blue, that caught her attention. Slowing her flight to a glide, Dash was a little surprised to see Applejack out here - she was usually too busy with the farm or helping others in Ponyville to head out as far as Whitetail Woods. Or at least that's what it always seemed like. Her attention centred on her friend, Rainbow Dash bolted towards the ground, skidding to a halt as her hooves kicked up a dust cloud.
"Sup!" She grinned, wings settling loosely back to her sides. Spotting AJ's trademark hat on the floor, the azure pegasus flipped the corner of it with a hoof, flicking the thing onto her own head with the grin still beaming towards her friend. "This is totally mine now. What'd I miss? Oh, hey Scootaloo."
So her thought patterns may have been a little skewed that day, but oh well! She was thinking with enough brain power to fly and that was good enough. Maybe Dash needed a sugar boost or something. The grin still plastered on her face made its way down to Scootaloo before turning to follow AJ's line of sight... WAS THAT SOARIN'? FROM THE WONDERBOLTS?
Omigoshomigosh just act cool, ACT COOL.
((JUST IN CASE, that last bit in italics are thoughts not speech. I know other people note thoughts differently haha!))

Soarin’ had his eyes only on AppleJack, and didn’t notice young Scootaloo at first. “That’s why I came to Ponyville. I was thinkin’ about joinin’ in on the runnin’ with the leaves this year, but wasn’t sure which route it was. I’ve only been in town for a few days, and mainly by the cottage I stay at.” He admitted with a sheepish grin, head shaking as he tried to get his scruffy forelocks out of his eyes. About to say more, he finally heard and saw the approaching filly, and took a step to the side as she came up.
At first, he assumed with a logical conclusion that the filly was related to AppleJack, but luckily before he asked AppleJack spoke to her, making it clear that wasn’t the case. “Hey there kiddo! Neat ride you got there!” He beamed at the young filly as he took a step closer, fascinated with it. The stallion was slightly upset though, and he soon went silent as he shifted his weight around, luckily AppleJack knew how to keep the conversation up.
“Well, would be nice with a …” He was about to finish when the mare dropped her hat, but when he was about to be a gentlecolt, the azure pegasus mare dropped out of the sky and stole the hat. Well, he didn’t mind, the new mare looked as good in it as AppleJack looked without. Grinning, he stepped a bit to the side to give some space to her. The light azure stallion studied the newcomer again, silently completely forgetting what he was about to say. “Oh! Hey! I know you! You won the best young flier competition didn’t you? And saved my pie!” That Rainbow Dash had saved his life didn’t matter as much as his pie.
