Hours had passed since Candle had started wandering. It was already pretty dark, but thankfully the night still provided some light with its beautiful display of stars. The pegasus had taken to a long stroll through town, reminiscing of her time spent in Canterlot in her youth. Usually it ended up being a pleasant trip, visiting her family here; especially with all the trouble she was having fitting in at her new home in Ponyville... But something was just off this time. Without much reason to it, she opted to take a late promenade. Of course, she could've picked a better time to do it.
It seemed most ponies were asleep, at least that's what she gathered from the distinct lack of any faces around. Hopefully there would still be somepony like her, just out enjoying the leisurely feel of the sleeping city.

Stepping out onto the dark, quiet street in front of a small house was a rather large pegasus who had awoken just an hour or so ago. He had decided to kill some time before he had to be at work, with a walk through the empty city streets. The sight of nearly empty streets was something he had gotten used to at this point, so the sound of hooves clicking not far off quickly grabbed his attention. At any other time, he would have dismissed it, but the fact whoever it was was out as late as him drew his interest. He began to walk in the direction of the hoof-steps.
After a short trot, he rounded the corner and the mystery pony came into view. With the surprise of still finding somepony out this late in his voice, "Oh, goodmo- 'No, it's not morning to other ponies', he cut himself off in thought, Good 'evening' miss. I'm surprised somepony else is out this late."
( I know! Dusk Posted something! )

Halting abruptly at the sound of the other pegasus, Candle blinked curiously. At this point she had figured there probably wasn't a chance she was going to see anypony tonight... Plus it seemed the special kind of silence had lulled her into a haze as she walked, since it was such a surprise to her when she had finally noticed him. Still, it didn't look like he was unfriendly. "Oh, hello there... I apologize, I didn't wake you, did I?" She sheepishly smiled at the pony. That was the last thing she wanted to do, it wouldn't be good if she was out causing trouble at this time.
But he didn't seem to be angry, and he didn't exactly look like one of the typical Canterlot guards... If he was just a resident here, it made her wonder what he was up to as well. Maybe he had the same reasoning as her, maybe he was just on his way home, no matter what excuse, it caught her interest.

Trying to stifle a chuckle, it took Dusk a brief moment to finally answer the other pegasus. "There's really no need to apologize miss, I'm usually up this around this time. I was just heading out when I thought I heard something, then I came across you." The reason for why the other pony was out so late had, at first, been something he was curious about, but now he assumed he was probably interrupting something important. Why else would she be out so late?
"Sorry for barging up to you like this. I hope I didn't interrupt anything..." he trailed off, feeling embarrassed for being what he thought was so rude. He began to wish he had just let his curiosity pass. He felt himself wanting to get away from this situation more and more.

Relieved that she hadn't woken him up, Candle cheerfully responded. "Well, alright... I was afraid I may have disturbed you." She shook her head, glancing up towards the sky. "You needn't worry either... I was only out for a simple stroll, clearing my head is all..." Her gaze lowered back to him again. With a reassuring smile she couldn't help but ask him "But it's quite late. Why would you need to be up around now anyways, mister... um...?" It occurred to her that they hadn't properly introduced themselves yet. How rude of her! Here she was taking up his valuable time, probably pestering him with this conversation and she didn't even know his name.
Fortunately she was feeling a bit better about running into him though, after the realization that she hadn't done something wrong. Despite her apparent absence of manners when coming across new company of course, but she hoped that he didn't think of her as disrespectful.

Dusk began to relax as the other pegasus reassured him that she wasn't in a rush either. They seemed to share a similar motivation for being out at such an hour. With new confidence he smiled back at her to answer, "You can just call me Dusk, ma'am. As for why I'm out this late, it's just to pass time until I head off to work." He pauses for a moment to think, then asks with a small bit of timidity, "You like the night? It was a rare thing to find ponies who still liked night times, especially in Canterlot

With a quiet nod her attention drifted back to the stars above. "It is a wondrous moment in the long stretch of time we get to enjoy..." she tentatively approached, feeling a bit more comfortable around this pegasus. Dusk... "The stars are always so beautiful; it helps me think when I get to take walks like this. It puts a lot of things into perspective and... Well, it helps a pony clear their heads I believe."
It wasn't long before the realization of her dreamy state hit her, and she instantly felt a bit embarrassed. Her composure was rarely broken in such a way when she wasn't discussing, well, her "work". With only a slight blush she corrected herself, resolving not to let herself fall into such an unsophisticated ramble again. It was only proper, and this pony clearly knew Canterlot. "Um... Where is it that you work then Dusk?" Maybe through familiarity she could make a new friend here. It was a nice thought, right?

Dusk followed her gaze up to the dark sky above. It was as beautiful a night as any, perhaps even more so than usual, but he couldn't place why. As Candle explained how she felt about the evening, another smile crossed Dusk's face. He hadn't noticed her sudden change to a less formal tone, but how rang true how much she enjoyed the night. Growing up thinking that there wasn't anypony else that respected the night as he did, even having learned this wasn't very true by now, it always set his mind at ease when met another one.
It took him a brief moment to break his gaze from the heavens after Candle had asked her question. When he did return to Earth, he answered in a tone you would use with an old friend, "Oh it's nothing much. I just deliver mail. It's more of a part time job really since it's not even the main routes. I only do the overnight deliveries - which aren't many since their extra. Not many other ponies like the job, so it's usually just me..." He trailed off as he realized he was the one rambling this time. "So what is it that you do, mysterious pegasus of the night?" playfully teasing her since he still had yet to learn her name.

A slight blush emerged on her face, although it might've been too dark to tell. At least, she hoped it was. "Oh! I... I am sorry Dusk... I completely..." she exhaled softly. "...My name is Candle. Candlelight Prose." with another quiet nod, the pegasus paused. So he was a mailpony? Or something similar then. "It sounds... Well it sounds like you're usually working on your own then..." To be completely honest, to her it sounded a particularly lonely occupation. Especially the time he had to do it, without anypony to help him. Perhaps he preferred it like that though, maybe she was still just keeping him...
There was really only one way to find out though. Still partially hesitant, she walked closer to Dusk, coming up just a little ways away on one side of the dark pegasus. "Will you be needing to head off to work soon, then?" Whether or not he was enjoying her company as much as she was enjoying his tonight was hard to tell.

Dusk couldn't help but chuckling at her response and answered, "Well it's wonderful to meet you Miss Prose." He thought he saw a blush run across her face, but simply assumed it was from embarrassment. He decided not to acknowledge it and make her feel even more so than she already was.
Reacting to her question without thought he turned his head back up to the sky to judge the time and answered, "No, I don't have to be in for about another hour or so." Quickly his vision dropped back down to the city and his acquaintance. An expression of embarrassment crept onto his face as he noticed how close she had gotten. "W-Why, were you wanting to go somewhere?"

"I can't say I've had any plans for the night... But I must say, it has been a pleasure meeting you as well Dusk." It was a relief to hear at least that she wasn't pestering him. She had come off as overbearing to some ponies in the past, which was always disappointing. Fortunately she got the chance to really connect with somepony that didn't think she was... well, peremptory. The embarrassment of their encounter looked to have transferred itself to the colt, although Candle wasn't bothered by it. If she noticed, she was staying quiet.
A pleasant smile readjusted itself onto her muzzle, if even for a little while she would have liked to hang out with Dusk for a bit longer. It was easy to talk to him for some reason. "...Did you have someplace in mind, Dusk? If you're not busy... Maybe we could even just walk for a bit. It's always interesting just seeing where your own hooves will take you."

Major Zed yawned. It was a long day. Out on a late-night stroll in the woods, he chanced upon two ponies, a colt and a filly talking. Embarrassed, he hid behind a tree, yet with some of his mane showing its distinctive blond colour.
