Cause I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it
The streets of Appleloosa where teeming with activity, probably due to Hayloween being not to far away. Young foals where running all over the place, talking about who or what they where going as, even the older ponies were getting exited. Talk of all the apple sweets that where being made, all of the new decorations, there was even talk about an apple bobbing contest down in the orchards!
One pony however did not seem phased by all the excitement, a seemingly annoyed face appearing at the sight and sounds of so many young foals. She was trying to say out of sight as she waited, although with all the noise she was finding harder and harder to keep quiet and calm.
She played with the ground as she watched her own hoof, trying in some vain attempt to block out the other ponies. A constant rhythm was produced as her hoof continued to strike the barren ground; this was taking ages!
A few nights before, a new acquaintance of Draco's, an ivory stallion, had asked something of her... and while the she was happy to help with the task, waiting for him was slowly getting her tail in a twist.
Despite this the red mare was slowly making up her mind. Maybe she should move; he was never specific with where they would meet and if she listened to the incessant droning of the foals any longer than she was going to lose it.
Just as she was trying to slip away however, a young filly ran straight up to her, an apple lolly pop in her mouth.
"Hey filly! You want one?!" She grinned, the orange sweet's stick making her slur her words.
A small sigh left Draco's throat, a small smile finding her lips. Maybe not all foals where annoying..
"Uhh...Thank you sweet heart." She smiled, taking the treat from the small pony, petting her mane lightly.
The filly happily ran off to play with her friends, leaving Draco to flop onto her haunches, attempting to open the orange lolly, her green tongue sticking out of the side her her mouth slightly.
"Oh come on.."

He was a little surprised Nightmare Night customs extended their reach this far South. Appleloosa tended to keep to it's own devices, more often than not, and adopting such city-folk ideas as 'trick or trotting' ; costumes; and other rituals was peculiar at best. Wild wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth, however; scooping up a hooffull of free candy or a benevolently offered caramel something-or-other was divine when you didn't have the steadiest of income.
As he traversed the unusually busy streets, the stallion afforded a mindful glance over his shoulder. He wanted to make sure his companion was still in tow, keeping an eye on his flanks. There were few ponies he trusted with his well-being, and Sagebrush was one of them. The added security was a boon, really. He hadn't survived this long by allowing a pretty face to catch him off guard.
Draco could have been as benevolent as the next pony, without seedy thoughts of double crossing the ivory male, but one could never be too careful. This 'field trip' could always go awry at the last moment, and two versus one were always better odds. For the moment though, all he could do was allow this unicorn to escort him to this potential fortune, silently hoping for an uneventful expedition.
He soon spotted Draco, squat on her backquarters and fussing with the wrapper of a lollipop. Wild bore an entertained smile at that; the curse of hooves was such a bother sometimes.
" Need some help? " He intoned coolly behind her, an eyebrow inquisitively tilting high.

Crowds. It was common knowledge to anypony who knew Sage that crowds were one of his most hated things. ANd it seemed like today the little frontier town was bustling more than usual with the excitement of this...Nightmare Night. Sagebrush had never heard of such a thing until he'd joined the Saddles. Apparently ponies dressed up and gave out sweet treats to one another, which to him was one of the oddest customs he'd ever heard of.
But as he was going to be forced to acclimate into the way of life of these ponies, he shrugged, accepted it, and tried to learn what he could. He dealt even with the congested streets today due to his loyalty to Wild Card, keeping close to the stallion though his eyes were roving in all directions. One could never keep too careful on eye on those around them, though nopony was looking suspicious at the moment. Wild had asked him along on this little adventure and of course the rust-colored stallion would scarce refuse. He trusted so few others with the protection of those he cared for, os his hooves kept just to the rear of Wild's own as his leader spotted the crimson-hued filly they'd been on the lookout for.

The red filly's frown grew as she heard an all to familiar voice in her ear, her eyes flicking up to meet that of the two colts who stood not to far from her. Not wanting help for such a simple task the mare chose to ignore it and instead focus her attention on Wild and his rust coloured friend. Interesting; she was sure she had seen him before but shook it off for now. She would inquire later when she did not feel so foolish.
Thinking about her options at that moment, her horn began to glow, lifting the sweet and placing it in her leg holster, now sitting aside her cigarettes for a later time.
Once again she dragged herself to her hooves, no longer keeping eye contact with either Wild or Sage. Instead she held her head high, a slight smirk on her lips.
"Its about time gentlecolts. You know, there's only a certain time I like to hunt for gems and you're wasting it." She frowned, walking a lap around the pair as she spoke. A scarlet flash of her tail, flicking around her frame followed her words. This was going to be an...interesting night.
Wasting no more time she turned , starting her way down a nearby path, a path away from the city and out into the desert. This filly had a place in mind, a location he had found a couple of weeks before that night. Even then she had realized she wasn't strong enough to carry or even attempt to take the spoils that place had to offer...maybe these stallions where just what she needed.

" I assure yoo, yoor time es just as valuable as ours, " He intoned persuasively, politely canting his head forward and letting the gesture linger for modesty's sake. " I...apologize, for our tardiness. We had a few loose ends to tie up. " Wild chucked a vague smile in Sagebrush's direction, before dropping it posthaste and refocusing on the irritated unicorn.
" Let us get introductions in order and then be on our way. Senora Draco, this, " He inclined a dirtied forehoof towards the earth pony standing loyally near his side. " , es Sagebrush, an old friend and confidant, and one of the most talented medicine ponies I know. " The stallion curtly swung his attention back towards the female, replicating the insinuating movement with his hoof in her direction. " And this, Sagebrush, es Senora Draco Meteor, our illustrious and aesthetically pleasing guide for the evening."
Wild Card resurrected his characteristically neutral smile from prior. " Before yoo ask, I have brought mi amigo here for the purpose of safety, " He quickly added, " Medicinal insurance, of course, in case one of us happens to get injured for whatever reason."
It was a half-truth, something he was relatively good at conjuring up. With any luck, she'd take his excuse without much curiosity.

His first thought was that the filly was more than a little rude. Cocky, self-confident, though admittedly quite suave. With a lithe flick of the tail she was off, with never so much as a hello or an introduction, which Wild had to supply.
Of course, after enough time around Wild, he was able to catch the little hints and tricks he played, about where they'd come from, and about why he was here. These little capers usually came with a price, and he already had no trust at all for this Draco. He simply nodded his greeting to her, and didn't bother asking where they were going. He had a feeling she'd blindfold them both if she had a choice. For now, he chose to stay silent. Sometimes, it was better to cloak onself in mystery.

The female stopped in her own tracks, Watching the pair as Wild spoke an eyebrow flicking as she attempted to show interest in the other pony, Names where irrelevant to her right now. She was more interested in what she could get, what they all could get. Although with the ivory stallions last words, she found herself lingering, She didn't find herself believe him...Not one bit.
Deciding not to linger in the distrust for now, she pressed herself onwards once more, a quick flash of a green aura surrounding the hood of her veil as she pulled it up to her skull once more, Let the events Begin.
She found herself meandering through the apparent maze of foals running around, let alone all of the decorations. Never the less it didn't seem to be a very thick group and it would not take them along to get through. The night was still young and beautiful, this looked to be very good after all.
When the group could hear themselves think once more, the red unicorn chose to speak up once more, still not looking back the stallions. "Did you have any specific--Gems in mind?" She asked coolly, her trot slowing slightly so she could lift a cigarette from her holder residing on her left leg, using magic to both move the white stick to her lips along with its lighter, quickly igniting the thing before returning the lighter itself,Taking a long inhale with a smirk.

Wild began his steady cadence after Draco, keeping Sagebrush in tow. He could already tell it was going to be a long evening, and a blatantly perturbed side glance to his earth pony companion bespoke his feelings clearly. Nevertheless, he quickly donned a fabricated mask of congeniality, a shadow of a smile alighting upon his lips as he followed the acerbic unicorn. Botching a potential fortune like this with a lack of politeness could potentially set him and his comrades back, no matter how he felt personally.
" Well, Senora Draco, being the draconic scholar yoo are, perhaps yoo can tell me which types of gems dragons favor most. " The pale equine made a point to weave his gait away from the trail of acrid smoke Draco's cigarette was emitting. He was a smoker himself, but he was making a...somewhat feeble attempt to kick the habit currently. A direct influence like that wasn't going to help.
" After all, they favor the most precious of jewels, do they not? I'd imagine what they would consider valuable would be the best catalyst of eventual income."

He could read Wild's glances better than most, and knew he was aware that tonight was going to be...most interesting. Watching the unicorn work her magic unnerved him quite a bit. While his little band of course knew of unicorns, none of them had really crossed paths with his tribe, and their magic made him more wary than awed. Such a "gift" could be put to uses he didn't care to think about.
He didn't know much of anything about gems, either, other than the ponies here valued them monetarily as well as decoratively. And that dragons featested on them. But that was pretty much the extent of his knowledge, and since he wasn't entirely sure what Wild's plan was, he was content to let the two of them do the talking while he played the part of bodyguard. Though he did lean over to whisper to the alabaster stallion "Is this going to be worth the trouble?" As always, Sage was concerned for everyone's welfare...though for Wild's more than most.

It was turning into colder nights of late, and this evening was no different - not that he minded much. A small figure hopped gleefully on the horizon, accompanied by several even smaller blots on the darkened sky. A calf and his birds, to the keen eye. Ignoring the presence of Appleloosa nearby, the young buffadeer was quite enjoying his night-time stroll, though he had to admit that the sounds of the pony town were ruining his solace. The plains were usually so quiet at this time, but with the preparations for Nightmare Night - or whatever they called it - under way, the racket they were creating easily carried across to break his silence. Well, he was hardly brave enough to go in and tell them to keep the noise down, so it was just background chatter that he'd have to learn to ignore. Not that it was difficult to.
Dancing along to the movements of his feathered friends and the melodies in his own mind, Littlehorn barely noticed where he was drifting. To him, the entire plains could have been his and his alone. The majority of his kin were further along, out of his way, and he wasn't expecting any ponies to be leaving the town so late at night. Alas, he was wrong. Unexpectedly, the buffadeer managed to hop straight into the path of one particular crimson unicorn, oblivious to her presence... until he tripped into her, of course.
"Aaack!" He squeaked, scrabbling to his hooves in panic. "S-sorry...!"

Her ear flicked as he spoke, her eyes not staying from her own path. It was so easy to get lost around this area, let alone at night. Despite this once he was finished she glanced his way, her blue eyes glowing slightly from the low dim the butt of her cigarette was giving off, her green tongue illuminated along with it as she shifted the white stick to the other side of her mouth, taking a moment to think.
"Hmm there are quite a few that even dragons would consider 'rare' However, the items I have in mind are none of them" The mare grinned, her eyes lighting up slightly at her own words, just the idea of being able to get a hold of those beautiful rocks sent a shiver down her very spine. "No the ornaments I have in mind are- She was cut off and forced to stumble back as something collided with her, almost forcing the female to loose her balance.
A low growl almost escaped her throat, a frown swiftly following once she found her footing once more. She couldn't even tell what this creature was, he didn't look like any pony she had ever seen--No buffalo either. What on earth was he? She found herself bottling her vexation for now, instead raising an eyebrow and a hoof to the strange male in a rather effortless attempt to offer her help. "Uh Its all right I suppose, Are you okay lad?" she frowned, a small mark of concern noticeable on her face.
She knew it was rude but the more she gazed upon this beast the more she had to wonder what species he was, she quickly found herself asking before she even had a chance to think about how rude it must have been. "I'm sorry for asking but...what exactly are you?"

The stall annoyed him, albeit briefly. He was never a fan of sudden setbacks even if they were minor, and the stallion endeavored to get a closer look at the being Draco was addressing.
He frowned openly in confusion as he drew closer, attaining a first, significant look at the enigmatic creature. Such varying traits of two different species. Was it some sort of mythical legend, like a jackalope? He was oddly demure, and could speak their language. Now he was fiercely curious. With a crisp glance towards Sagebrush, he bowed his head to the side in a sudden jerk, indicating the earth pony stay on his six in case things went askance.
" I must repeat that inquiry, " The ragged pony uttered, taking several cautious steps forward until he was an inch or two ahead of Draco. A leveled stare bore into the small, hooved creature, eyes narrowing. " What are you? Friend or foe? " There was a subtle input of agitation forced through his voice; a subconscious hint of intimidation to wrench a quick answer out of the being.

While Sagebrush cared very little about the "riches" the more civilized ponies seemed to admire, he could practically see the gleam in Draco's eyes, even as the town lights faded and all that lit their path was the moon and stars. But Wild's mission was his mission, and there was always a reason for these daring little exploits.
But a sudden squeak and a stumbling Draco put a momentary halt to their hoofsteps, and he blinked to see a young buffadeer! Now there's something you didn't see often. He was mildly amused that Draco had no clue what the creature was, and neither apparently had Wild, though he framed his question more to the point. "Looks like we've found a young buffadeer." The rusty stallion remarked, having come into contact with a herd or two in his former life with his tribesponies.
The calf's little companions were all aflutter, and he almost wanted to apologize for his companions, who were probably scaring the little creature out of his wits. The chance that the young one bore them any harm seemed slim and none, but he kept his position, watching the calf with calm eyes and more than a hint of curiosity, if one looked hard enough to see it.

"I-I'm j-just..." Stammered the buffadeer, stumbling back a few paces. Cowering under the watchful eyes of three ponies now, he only found the will to nod quickly upon hearing Sagebrush's explanation. How exactly the earth pony knew of his kind was beyond him - although he didn't exactly look like any of the city-types he'd seen wandering around Appleloosa.
Letting out a mild squeak, Littlehorn's gaze darted incessantly between the trio, flickering especially quickly away from the ivory stallion. Maybe he could just run? Would he even be fast enough to get away? Thinking over the questions he had been asked, the young thing stepped back again; did they really believe he was a danger to them? "I-I don't mean any harm!" He uttered, trying to seem as non-threatening as possible. The last thing Littlehorn wanted was to get into any kind of fight!
He practically leapt out of his pelt as one of his feathered companions rejoined the little buffadeer, tiny talons resting on an antler. The shock fluffed the bird momentarily before both it and Littlehorn settled again. Having a friend at his side - no matter how small - did calm him to some extent. Which also gave him his last snippet of voice to bring up his own question. "What are you all doing out here? M-most ponies don't travel out this far."

A frown quickly returned her her face as her travelling companions crowded her and the young creature, forcing Draco to take several steps to the side to give herself some air. Seems like her one act of concern had been ignored, This was why she didn't bother showing her actual emotions to other's. They where all the same, ignorant, uncaring idiots.
No matter, like always she would keep her actual concern for the other creature to herself. She really couldn't wait to get this over with. With a flick of her tail, she put some distance between her and the others, giving the young buffadeer room to breathe.
"A Buffadeer hmm? Interesting." Draco couldn't help but smile as the bird left down to the young male, a clearly soothing affect being given off. "Well nice to meet you lad. We're on our way out into the more barren area's around Appleloosa, more specifically-" she paused, lifting a hoof and pointing it towards the mountainous regions in the not to far of distance. "Over there. You and your feathery friend are welcome to join us if you so wish. Its not like the air could get more spiteful right now"
Draco frowned, Inhaling a puff from her cigarette once more, causing the ignited fires to light up her face, her blue eyes watching the group before her. "My names Draco by the way, Draco Meteor.
